London branch for EU patent court confirmed

Business secretary Vince Cable has confirmed that one branch of the unified patent court for the European Union will be established in London.

The court will enable patent owners to enforce their rights across the EU through the one court in London, rather than in the courts of several member states. The London court, however, will consider only cases from pharmaceutical or life sciences patent owners and will form one branch of a unified patent court across the EU.
