The Department of Health has launched a competition to win funding to establish Academic Health Science Centres in England to improve translation of basic science into patient benefits.
In a statement released on 12 April, the department says improvements will be achieved through increased strategic alignment of NHS providers and their university partners. AHSC status will be granted for five years beginning on 1 April 2014.
Universities and NHS provider partnerships must submit a pre-qualifying questionnaire by 31 May 2013.
