Dedicated centres should handle confidential patient information, says data review

Personal patient data that are confidential or potentially identifiable should be handled by dedicated centres, the health secretary Jeremy Hunt has been told.

The recommendation was made in the Information Governance Review, published on 26 April.

Led by Fiona Caldicott, the review examined the balance between sharing personal health information for purposes such as research, and protecting the confidentiality of individuals.
