An independent review to improve growth opportunities for universities and local businesses has been launched by universities and science minister David Willetts.
Andrew Witty, the chief executive officer of GlaxoSmithKline and chancellor of the University of Nottingham, will lead the review, it was announced on 8 April.
The review will assess how universities contribute to their local economies and identify areas in which the UK’s research base could be a world leader.
