Government announces further five Ebola projects

The Department for International Development and the Wellcome Trust have allocated five Ebola-related research projects £1.34 million from an existing fund for health research in humanitarian crises.

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has won funding for two projects: one that will use statistical modelling to estimate the need for health care facilities and another that will look at developing local interventions against the infection.

Another project, based at the University of Oxford, will use statistical modelling to predict disease spread, a project at the University of Westminster will explore the development of a portable rapid diagnostic test, and one conducted by the International Rescue Committee will look at how behavioural change can help to control the spread of infection.
