Sajid Javid appointed business secretary

Prime minister David Cameron has announced that Sajid Javid has been appointed secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, taking over the role from Liberal Democrat Vince Cable.

Cameron named the business secretary on 11 May along with more Cabinet appointments.

Javid has held four previous roles in government, serving as secretary of state for culture, media and sport from April 2014 to May 2015, as financial secretary to the Treasury from 2013 to 2014 and as economic secretary to the Treasury from 2012 to 2013. He was minister for equalities from April to July 2014, but was moved to the culture, media and sport role when Maria Miller resigned during a row over expenses.
