A competition to develop a data analytics platform for the Ministry of Defence is part of a larger effort to change how the department works with data, according to the Centre for Defence Enterprise.
The CDE, part of the MoD’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, launched a competition to develop an analytics platform for defence data on 3 June, called the open-source big data insight competition. In a statement, the CDE says that a greater understanding of defence information and documents will enable the MoD to “streamline processes, collaborate more effectively and share knowledge seamlessly”.
However, Amanda Kerry, the CDE’s engagement manager, told Research Fortnight that the competition is also intended to pave the way for changing how the MoD works with data analytics suppliers.
