Clare Moriarty has been appointed permanent secretary at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Moriarty is the director-general at the Department for Transport’s Rail Executive. She will take up her post at Defra in the summer, replacing Bronwyn Hill, who has been the department’s permanent secretary since 2011.
In a statement, Moriarty said, “I am thrilled to become Defra’s permanent secretary. The department has a great role to play on issues that matter to everyone in the country, from the food that we eat to the future of the planet.”
