Brexit talks to start on Monday

The first round of negotiations on how the UK will leave the European Union will start as planned on 19 June.

The date for the first face-to-face talks was confirmed in a joint statement on 15 June by David Davis, the Brexit secretary, and Michel Barnier, the European Commission’s chief negotiator.

Over the next seven months, the EU is expecting the two sides to negotiate a withdrawal deal and solve pending issues such as citizens’ rights, the UK’s financial exit bill and the future border arrangements for Northern Ireland.
