Johnson survives and is back as science and universities minister

Theresa May has reappointed Jo Johnson as universities and science minister in her post-election cabinet reshuffle.

Johnson tweeted yesterday that he was “delighted” to be reappointed and was looking forward to implementing the Higher Education and Research Act and the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Johnson had been tipped to lose his universities brief after the election, but the Conservatives’ poor election showing appears to have forced May to implement a less radical reshuffle. The announcement follows the confirmation of Greg Clark as secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy (BEIS).
