An executive from the private healthcare industry has been appointed as the Department of Health’s first chief commercial officer.
Steve Oldfield, chief operating officer at PGT, a Geneva-based consumer health joint venture between Procter & Gamble and Teva, will take up the role in October.
He will oversee commercial capability, share best practice and work to improve the delivery of the supply chain. One of his tasks will be to reduce costs in an effort to address the £22-billion shortfall in NHS funding.
