The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has published a second wave of the science and innovation audits set up by universities and science minister Jo Johnson to map the technological strengths of regions across the UK.
The eight reports—published on 21 September by consortia of universities, businesses, research organisations and local authorities—continue a series examining local opportunities in certain industries and how those opportunities could be exploited.
Johnson first announced the audits of science and innovation in July 2015, in an attempt to promote greater regional investment in R&D outside the golden triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge. The first five reports were published in November 2016.
