The UK government is expected to say that it hopes to continue participating in the European Union’s science and research funding programme, Horizon 2020 in its forthcoming position paper on science post-Brexit.
The government may offer to pay up to £1 billion—the amount the UK claims in research funding through Horizon 2020—to secure its continued participation in the EU programme and its successors, The Times reported on 4 September.
The position paper, which will be published on 6 September, is also expected to say that the UK hopes to remain part of other EU science programmes including Galileo, the global navigation satellite system, and Copernicus, the satellite Earth observation programme.
