Defence science lab director to run Met Office

Penelope Endersby, a director at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, has been appointed chief executive of the national meteorological office.

Endersby, who led the cyber and information systems division at Dstl, was also acting chief technical officer as well as a non-executive director of Ploughshare Innovations, the Ministry of Defence’s technology transfer organisation.

She will start her new job in early December, succeeding interim chief executive Nick Jobling, who will revert to his previous post as the Met Office’s chief finance officer. Jobling stepped up in March to fill the chief executive role after Rob Varley, who ran the agency for four years, resigned.
