Hammond promises £150m to lure researchers from overseas

Budget 2018: Chancellor Philip Hammond has allocated up to £150 million of government funding for international fellowships, with a special focus on artificial intelligence.

In the 2018 budget, released on 29 October, Hammond announced the allocation of £100m to an international fellowship scheme “to attract, retain and develop world-leading research talent”.

The chancellor also said £50m would be spent on Turing AI Fellowships, which he hopes will “bring the best global researchers in AI to the UK”.
