R&D tax-credit clampdown targets fraud

Budget 2018: The Treasury is responding to alleged fraud in the research tax credit system by performing a U-turn on a previous easing of the rules for small businesses.

By its own estimates one in 20 small businesses claiming the credits could be affected.

In his 29 October budget, the chancellor Philip Hammond promised that the government would “stop our generous R&D tax credits system being abused”.
