Bernard Jenkin, Conservative MP for Harwich and North Essex, has criticised the government for not doing enough to reassure UK-based researchers concerned about the repercussions of Brexit.

Jenkin, who chairs the House of Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, was speaking at an event on the UK’s exit from the European Union held by the Institute for Government on 21 November.

“I do appreciate how much uncertainty people in science and research are feeling at the moment and the government could have done more to reassure you and I wish they had,” said Jenkin in response to a question from Sarah Main, executive director of the advocacy group the Campaign for Science and Engineering.
