Aviation strategy will seek to increase innovation

Driving up investment in R&D in the aviation industry will be a core part of the UK’s aviation strategy, according to the UK government.

In its Aviation 2050: The future of aviation consultation paper, published on 17 December, the government makes the case for increased spending on R&D in this industry. It said opportunities for innovation would emerge in areas such as automation, electrification and digitalisation, and data sharing.

“Increasing levels of R&D investment will create opportunities to build on aviation’s track record of success in encouraging innovation, and the government is committed to using its full range of policy levels to support this,” the government said.
