Tom Rodden, the deputy executive chairman of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, has been appointed chief scientific adviser at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

He will step down from his EPSRC role on 11 January 2019 and start work at the DCMS that same month, according to a spokesman for the EPSRC. Rodden will take over from Joe Butler, who has been interim CSA to the department since October 2017.

As EPSRC’s deputy executive chairman, he has been responsible for research strategy at the research council. He is a professor of computing at the University of Nottingham.
