Who is Chris Skidmore?

The new minister for science and universities Chris Skidmore is a Conservative remainer, now in favour of the Brexit deal, who has voted for stronger enforcement of immigration rules and an increased fee cap for universities.

Born in Bristol, Skidmore attended the University of Oxford where he also undertook postgraduate research. He has written several history books and is a fellow of both the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries. 

Skidmore was first elected to parliament as a Conservative MP for Kingswood, in South Gloucestershire, in 2010. During that parliament, he sat on the House of Commons Health Committee and the House of Commons Education Committee.
