Home Office research centre folded into DSTL

The Home Office’s Centre for Applied Science and Technology has become part of the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.

Cast was integrated into DSTL on 1 April, the government said in a statement on 24 April. DSTL will now become the primary provider of science and technology to the Home Office, it said.

The decision was made in January 2017, after a 2016 review concluded that the merger would ensure “continued resilience in future”, according to the statement. Research Fortnight learned of the proposal in September 2016 and was told that the decision was based on a combination of factors, including cost considerations and an overlap in the research carried by both centres.
