Computer scientist to lead government’s AI office

The government has appointed Sana Khareghani, a civil servant and computer scientist, to lead its Office for Artificial Intelligence, the body responsible for the delivery of the AI sector deal.

As head of the office, Khareghani will lead work to establish an implementation plan for each section of the AI sector deal as well as deciding how progress on each of these fronts will be measured. 

The office straddles the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. It will support the government’s AI council, which will guide developments in AI technologies to ensure they benefit the economy.
