Hopes for an early UK-EU deal on science evaporate

The UK government has declined to commit to reaching a deal on maintaining research and innovation collaboration with the European Union following Brexit by October, as MPs had recommended.

In its response to a parliamentary report on the impact of Brexit on science and innovation, the government said that it would like to ensure that Horizon Europe, the successor programme to Horizon 2020, remained open to the UK.

The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report recommended that the government sought to strike a deal by October, to guarantee that the UK could participate in the EU’s research funding programme after Brexit, if it wished to do so.
