UK seeks full link to Euratom, minister says

The UK wants to negotiate “full association” to the European Atomic Energy Community research and training programme, according to Oliver Henley, a minister in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Henley made his comments about full association to Euratom and the European Union’s Earth observation project Copernicus in a written answer to a peer’s question, delivered on 10 May. Full association would be in the UK and EU’s “joint interests”, he said.

In January, the business secretary, Greg Clark, said the government would seek “close association” with the Euratom research and training programme, which includes the Joint European Torus and Iter, the global project to build a new fusion reactor.
