Ministers look set to adopt a policy that would introduce a tiered visa system after Brexit, making it easier for skilled immigrants such as researchers to move to and work in the UK.
A briefing issued by 10 Downing Street following a cabinet meeting yesterday, seen by Research Fortnight, confirmed that ministers received a presentation from Alan Manning, chairman of the Migration Advisory Committee.
Manning recommended that in the post-Brexit immigration system, “European Economic Area and non-EEA nationals should be part of one universal system”, which would mean European Union nationals not being granted easier access to the UK labour market than their non-EU peers.
