The UK government has announced that the executive director for advocacy and campaigns at conservation organisation WWF UK, a fellow of a University of Cambridge institute, is its preferred candidate to lead Natural England.
The environment secretary Michael Gove announced on 6 January that the government was proposing Tony Juniper to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee as the next chair of Natural England.
The committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing and produce a report on Juniper’s suitability for the role. Ministers will then consider whether to follow through with the appointment.
