Winners of Commonwealth antimicrobial scheme announced

A scheme to combat antimicrobial resistance in Commonwealth countries has selected projects to run across four African nations, the UK government has announced.

Twelve projects have been awarded a total of £1.3 million by the Department of Health and Social Care’s Fleming Fund, the UK government announced on 12 February.

The funds will be used to support new or existing partnerships between NHS trusts and UK health institutions, and their counterparts in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Through these partnerships, teams of pharmacists, doctors and specialist nurses will work with teams in partner institutions to undertake projects lasting up to 15 months.
