Skidmore offers assurances on European research collaboration

The UK government will ensure that the UK can still participate in European Research Infrastructure Consortia after Brexit even if it crashes out of the European Union without a deal, the science minister has said.

Speaking at the Universities UK international higher education forum on 27 March, Chris Skidmore said that UK participation in the consortia, known as Erics, gave scientists access to facilities, data, knowledge and contracts that would otherwise be unavailable.

“We are committed to Erics, and we want to continue to host and be members of Erics after Brexit,” Skidmore said. “I am therefore pleased to confirm today that the UK will continue to meet the obligations needed to be members of Erics after we have left the EU, irrespective of how we leave the EU.
