Science and universities minister Chris Skidmore is to cover the temporary absence of the energy and clean growth minister Claire Perry, and thus attend cabinet meetings.
While covering for Perry, who is taking a leave of absence to care for a family member, Skidmore will also continue in his current role as science and universities minister.
“I will try my best to match Claire’s huge dedication and commitment to this crucially important brief,” he said in a tweet on 20 May. “Indeed I hope to also highlight the vitally important work that science, research and our universities are doing in tackling climate change and innovating for clean growth.”
