Star team set to watch AI developments in the UK

The best and the brightest of the UK’s artificial intelligence community have been given the task of promoting the ethical adoption of AI in UK companies and other organisations.

The 21-strong membership of the AI Council, a national body to oversee the development of AI technologies and maximise their economic benefits, includes Mark Walport, the chief executive of umbrella funding body UK Research and Innovation, and Adrian Smith, the chief executive of the Alan Turing Institute.

Six academics from UK universities will sit around the table. Among them is David Lane, the founding director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, and Nick Jennings, the vice-provost for research and enterprise at Imperial College London.
