The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is recruiting for a director-general for science to replace Gareth Davies, who left the role earlier this year.
Davies, who had been director-general for business and science on both a permanent and interim basis between 2015 and May 2019, left BEIS to become director-general for international and security at the Department for Transport in May.
Previously, the main duty of the director-general for business and science was to safeguard the research budget. But according to a job advertisement, Davies’s successor will also have to manage the development and implementation of the industrial strategy. The full job title will be director-general for industrial strategy, science and innovation.
