The government is to review its regulatory system to ensure it enables a rapid deployment of technological innovations while building the public’s trust in the technologies of the future.
Science minister Chris Skidmore announced on 11 June that the government would publish a white paper on regulation for the fourth industrial revolution. The paper will build on the recommendations of the Council for Science and Technology, a group of prestigious scientists who advise the prime minister.
In a written parliamentary statement, Skidmore said that the UK’s future regulatory system should be friendly to innovation while ensuring the protection of rights.
