Prime minister Boris Johnson has said he is planning an overhaul of immigration, amid concerns from research and business leaders over the effects of Brexit on their ability to recruit skilled staff from abroad.

Speaking in parliament on 25 July, Johnson said the government would ensure that the UK continued to “attract the brightest and best talent from around the world”.

He added that he had instructed the Migration Advisory Committee to conduct a review “as the first step in a radical rewriting of our immigration system”, while declining to set any limit on migrant numbers. “I am convinced that we can produce a system that the British public can have confidence in,” he said.
