ONS warned of inaccurate R&D data years before major revision

Office for National Statistics knew of discrepancy in business R&D data as early as 2015

The UK’s Office for National Statistics was warned that its data on R&D spending were erroneous years before the figures were updated, Research Professional News has learned.

An official for the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development revealed that the group—which collates data on R&D from its 38 member countries—told the ONS it needed to investigate its business R&D data three or four years ago.
