The Higher Education Funding Council for England says it will not express a preference for green or gold models when it calls for work submitted to the Research Excellence Framework to be made available via open access.
Speaking at a conference at the Royal Society on 25 February, David Sweeney, director of research, innovation and skills at HEFCE, said that, unlike the research councils, he has “the luxury of not needing to express a preference” because “it is the wider dissemination of material that is of primary importance”.
