Swansea gets biggest boost in Welsh QR allocations

Three Welsh universities have made gains in the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales’ allocation of quality-related research funding at the expense of others, with Swansea University seeing the biggest increase in its share.

Research funding accounted for half of the allocations made by HEFCW on 22 May, when it announced a figure of £154 million for 2015-16, a slight decrease on previous years. QR research funding remained fixed at £71m.

Swansea received nearly 20 per cent more QR funding for 2015-16 compared with 2014-15, a rise of £2.2m, based on its performance in the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
