Staff submissions to the REF grow by almost 50%

The expected spike in submissions follows rule changes after the 2016 Stern review

The number of staff submitted to the Research Excellence Framework 2021 has grown by almost 50 per cent compared with the previous exercise.

More than 76,000 staff were put forward for the research assessment exercise, which closed for submissions on 31 March, representing a 46 per cent increase on the number of staff submitted to the 2014 REF.
