UK Sport, the Biotechnology and Biosciences Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council are to fund three research projects that could be used to improve training for elite athletes.
The awards total £1.4 million and will see researchers working with top athletes to find out whether they have a superior physiology to the average person.
