£30m for large social and economic projects and centres

Eight large research projects are to receive a total of £30 million from the Economic and Social Research Council, it was announced on 17 January.

Among the recipients of grants, which range from £2m to £5m, are a Centre for the Study of Risk and Ambiguity at the University of Essex and two centres based at the London School of Economics and Political Science, investigating macroeconomics and risk.

Other centres and large projects will study human behaviour, the use and manipulation of language in society and the dynamics of ethnic identity and relations.
