Immigration changes ‘threaten UK research’

Proposed changes to the government’s list of occupations that are exempt from immigration restrictions “risk shutting down the UK’s ability to participate in emerging research fields”, the head of Research Councils UK International has written in a blog post.

“Closing the door in the face of those immigrants—geoscientists, biostatisticians, informatics specialists to name but a few—whose skills can benefit the UK so greatly, would surely be cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face,” Sophie Laurie wrote on 23 January.
