Five projects have received backing from the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts, a fund supported by Nesta, Arts Council England and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
The £7-million fund was established to support collaborative work between arts organisations, technology providers, and researchers developing digital technology to widen audience access to the arts or products and services that can be useful for promoting and supporting the arts and culture activities.
The five projects have each received between £117,000 and £125,000 in funding. Recipients include Circus Starr, a charity that supports disabled and vulnerable children in the UK. It aims to help children with autism access the arts by developing a mobile app they can use to learn about arts events to alleviate their fears about new experiences and encourage them to attend.
