Willetts announces boost for UK-China collaborations

Science minister David Willetts announced £7 million of joint funding for collaborative projects between the UK and China during his recent visit to China.

A total of £3m of previously unannounced funding for work on developing and commercialising innovations in sustainable manufacturing will come from the Technology Strategy Board, Research Councils UK and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology.

Through another programme, up to £4m is being set aside by Research Councils UK and the National Natural Science Foundation of China to fund stem cell research. This funding supports the second phase of an existing partnership that is up for further discussion this week in Shanghai.
