The Medical Research Council has given £1.7 million to a collaborative project with the Science and Technology Facilities Council on major human diseases.
The grant, announced on 20 February, has been awarded to a consortium based at the Harwell Oxford research campus, consisting of the Central Laser Facility, the Research Complex at Harwell and MRC Harwell.
It aims to use technologies developed for observing the universe to study molecular systems at ultra-high definition and in 3D, and to predict and monitor the progression of diseases such as deafness and ageing.
