Research councils put £25m into microscopy

The Medical Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council have invested a total of £24.5 million in 17 microscopy platforms for biomedical research.

The largest investment announced on 20 February was £20.1m from the MRC, with the BBSRC and the EPSRC investing £2.4m and £2m, respectively.

The 17 winners, which include projects at the universities of Leeds, York and Imperial College London, were selected from 34 applicants via the cross-council Next Generation Optical Microscopy initiative.
