Palaeoclimatologist Jane Francis has been appointed director of the British Antarctic Survey. Francis is dean of the University of Leeds’ environment faculty. On 1 October she will take over from Alan Rodger, who has been interim director since November. The last permanent director was Nick Owens, who left in March last year.
