Palaeoclimatologist Jane Francis has been appointed as director of the British Antarctic Survey.
Francis is a professor of palaeoclimatology at the University of Leeds and dean of the university’s Faculty of Environment.
On 1 October, Francis will take over from Alan Rodger, who has been interim director since 26 November 2012. Rodger replaced the then interim director, Ed Hill, who was also director of the National Oceanography Centre. Nick Owens was BAS’s last permanent director until he left in March 2012.
