A £5 million Wellcome Trust developmental diseases programme has been launched to identify genes essential for mouse development and use the knowledge to further research into human birth defects.
The Deciphering the Mechanisms of Developmental Disorder programme, announced on 19 March, will work alongside the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Mouse Genetics programme and the Deciphering Developmental Diseases consortium.
The five-year study has received a strategic award from the Wellcome Trust and will be led by researchers at the Medical Research Council National Institute for Medical Research in London.
