A research centre to tackle the effects of musculoskeletal disorders on employment and workplace productivity is to be established at the University of Southampton.
Arthitis Research UK and the Medical Research Council have set aside £1.4 million to set up a centre to find ways of reducing the impact of musculoskeletal disorders on the UK workforce.
The centre will conduct research into the three main musculoskeletal causes of work disability: back, neck and arm pain; osteoarthritis; and inflammatory arthritis. It will also look at the impact of these conditions on those approaching retirement.
