UK and India look for top crops

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and India’s biotechnology department are to invest £5 million each in seven research projects on crop development.

The projects include investigations into heat, disease and drought resistance in crops, as well as how to broaden genetic diversity in staple crops. Each project has a UK-based and an India-based investigator.

The funding partnership was facilitated by Research Councils UK India, which, since 2008, has worked with India’s government and third parties to invest more than £150m in joint research programmes.
