The Science and Technology Facilities Council has welcomed the government’s support for the cognitive computing and big data centre in Daresbury.
Chancellor George Osborne announced £113 million for high performance computing in the autumn statement on 3 December. The STFC said that the investment would substantially expand the data-centric cognitive computing capabilities of its Hartree Centre.
The goal of cognitive computing systems is to enable scientists, as well as doctors, bankers, retailers and others to extract full value from their data and make more accurate decisions.
